Secure Access

One of the weak points in many networks is the use of passwords. These are often too simple, not changed regularly enough or freely shared between users. Passwords offer little real protection in today’s connected world. The use of passwords to secure access to networks is called One Factor Authentication; in other words, one thing – the password –needs to be known in order to gain access to a network.

What is Two Factor Authentication?

Two Factor Authentication requires that the user has to know something and have something in order to gain access to a network. This is achieved by giving users a small key fob sized device called a Token. When a button on the token is pressed a small display shows a six digit number that is used, along with a four digit PIN code instead of a password. This number is different each time the button is pressed and each token is uniquely associated with a users account.

Advantages

  • Increased security – passwords change every few seconds and are therefore impossible to guess
  • Users cannot share their password with others
  • Access can be audited – you know exactly who was using your systems and when
Network Places can supply VASCO hardware and software or design and implement fully integrated secure access solutions.
